Blount County deputies shot, suspect in custody, sheriff’s office reports

A suspect is in custody after two Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputies were shot while responding to a domestic call in Rockford, Tennessee. The incident took place at a home on Jacob Springs Road, where the deputies were familiar with the residents due to previous domestic situations. Following the escalation of the situation, shots were fired, injuring the deputies in the legs. The injured deputies were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Marian O’Briant from the sheriff’s office expressed shock at the incident, highlighting the recent death of Deputy Greg McCowan in February. The quick response of law enforcement was praised by a neighbor who witnessed the incident, stating that the large police presence was unprecedented in the area.

Multiple agencies, including the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Following the incident, Old Knoxville Highway was closed temporarily but reopened later that evening.

The community in Rockford is shaken by the shooting, and law enforcement officials are working to ensure the safety of residents in the area. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face while responding to domestic calls and the importance of swift and effective responses to such situations.
