Francis Ford Coppola Faces Allegations of Misconduct on ‘Megalopolis’ Film Set

Director Francis Ford Coppola faced accusations of trying to kiss extras during the production of his upcoming film “Megalopolis,” as reported by an article in The Guardian. The report detailed chaotic production conditions, with claims that Coppola pulled women to sit on his lap and tried to kiss scantily clad extras. However, a statement from the executive producer denied any knowledge of harassment or ill behavior, explaining that the director’s actions were meant to establish the spirit of the scene.

Despite these allegations, Mariela Comitini, a first assistant director on the film, praised Coppola for creating a positive work environment and finishing the project on time and on budget. “Megalopolis,” set to premiere at Cannes, stars Adam Driver as an architect with the ability to stop time, in conflict with the mayor of futuristic New York, played by Giancarlo Esposito. The film also includes Aubrey Plaza, Jon Voight, and Shia LaBeouf in supporting roles.

Coppola, best known for the “Godfather” trilogy, has been working on “Megalopolis” since the 1980s and invested $120 million of his own money to bring the project to fruition. Inspired by ancient Roman influences, the film explores themes of power and romance in a futuristic setting. Despite reports of a troubled production, Coppola remains dedicated to bringing his vision to the screen.
