Third Lawsuit Claims Johnson City Police Protected Serial Rapist • Tennessee Lookout

A woman has filed a lawsuit against Johnson City and its police force, alleging that officers took bribes to protect a serial rapist who drugged and pushed her out of a fifth-story window during an attempted assault. Mikayla Evans suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident that occurred in September 2020. The lawsuit claims that Johnson City police did not investigate or charge the perpetrator and intentionally destroyed evidence in exchange for money. This lawsuit is part of an ongoing corruption scandal involving allegations of police officers taking kickbacks to protect the rapist, who is linked to more than 50 assaults.

The lawsuit also alleges that police officers allowed the rapist to destroy evidence and shielded him from prosecution. This case is part of a larger class-action lawsuit representing victims of sexual assault whose cases were mishandled by the Johnson City police over a five-year period. The suit also includes evidence of extortion payments made by the perpetrator to police officers on a weekly basis.

The perpetrator, Sean Williams, is currently in federal custody facing multiple charges related to sexual exploitation of children and previous escape from custody. The lawsuit highlights the shocking conduct of Johnson City police officers in failing to investigate and arrest the perpetrator, as well as allowing the destruction of crucial evidence. The case is set to go to trial in federal court, with potential criminal probes by the Department of Justice into the police department’s handling of the serial rapist case.
