Speculation has been growing about who Donald Trump will choose as his running mate in the 2024 race for the White House. Trump has at least 19 potential options for a vice president, including familiar figures like Greg Abbott, Tucker Carlson, Ben Carson, Tom Cotton, and Tulsi Gabbard. Each potential pick comes with its own set of pros and cons as Republicans aim to regain the White House.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has 10 years of experience as governor, making him a strong candidate to step into the presidency if needed. However, Abbott is a white man in his late 60s, which may not help expand the Republican base among young and minority voters. Alabama Senator Katie Britt, on the other hand, is a young woman who could attract female and younger voters. However, she lacks a long track record as an elected official.
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Fox News host Tucker Carlson, and former HUD Secretary Ben Carson also have their own strengths and weaknesses as potential running mates for Trump. The choice of a vice president will be crucial for Trump as he aims to appeal to a wider range of voters and secure a victory in the 2024 election. The decision is expected to be announced by the start of the Republican National Convention in July.
