Knoxville’s City Unveils New Fire Truck to Replace Damaged KFD Vehicle

The Knoxville Fire Department will soon be getting a replacement for the truck that was lodged under a railroad overpass in South Knoxville. The city has ordered a 2005 unit with low mileage, which is currently being customized and is expected to be in the KFD fleet in about eight weeks.

The decision to order a replacement was deemed the most economical choice, as the damaged truck, Quint 10, was 13 years old and repairs would have cost the city between $500,000 and $600,000 and taken two years to complete. In comparison, a new truck would have taken four years to repair and been $700,000 over budget.

When asked about any potential disciplinary action, a city spokesperson stated that the matter was still under review. The replacement truck is being acquired to ensure that the department has the necessary equipment to carry out their duties effectively.

The city’s decision to order a replacement is aimed at ensuring the safety and efficiency of the Knoxville Fire Department. The new truck is expected to be a valuable addition to the KFD fleet and will help in maintaining the department’s operational capabilities.
