‘Haley supports Harris’

A group of former Nikki Haley voters, now supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for president, plan to ignore a cease-and-desist letter from Haley’s attorneys demanding they stop using her name. The group, called “Haley Voters for Harris,” is exercising their First Amendment rights to encourage others to vote for Harris over former President Donald Trump. The group argues that using Haley’s name in their title does not imply her support for Harris, as their website disclaimer states their views may not reflect Haley’s. They believe Haley’s request demonstrates a misunderstanding of federal law and that Haley is a public figure on public matters. The group has raised over $230,000 this election cycle and identifies as an outgrowth of the nonprofit Primary Pivot, which originally aimed to motivate Democrats and Independents to vote for Haley during the GOP primary. Haley recently endorsed Trump for reelection and stated that she and Harris are opposites on every issue, expressing frustration at any attempt to use her name to support Harris’ agenda. The group believes they have the right to use Haley’s name and ask for the same respect for their freedom to choose and express their political views.
