Former BBC News anchor Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, including images of children as young as 7. The 62-year-old, who was once the face of the BBC’s “News at Ten” program, admitted to having 41 indecent images, some of which were the most serious kind of offense.
Edwards, who quit the BBC in April 2023 after a 40-year career, faces up to 10 years in prison for his crimes. He was found to have received sexual images from another adult man via WhatsApp, with 41 of them being indecent images of minors. Despite this, his defense lawyer argued that Edwards did not create, keep, or send any of the images on his devices.
The veteran journalist’s case came to light less than a week after the BBC published its annual report, revealing that Edwards was the highest-paid newsreader at the corporation, earning a salary of $616,000. This was despite being suspended for most of the year and facing serious criminal charges.
Edwards’ downfall was further highlighted by his wife, Vicky Flind, who exposed him as the broadcaster who allegedly paid a teenager for explicit photos. The case has shocked the British public, as Edwards was a familiar face on TV for many years. His guilty plea brings an end to a long and successful career tainted by scandal.
