Former President Bill Clinton praised Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris during the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Clinton highlighted Harris’ middle-class roots, experience, and vision for moving the country forward. He commended her ability to connect with voters and praised her selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
Clinton also paid tribute to President Joe Biden, commending his work on the economy, handling of the coronavirus pandemic, and support for international issues. He compared Biden’s decision to not seek reelection to George Washington’s precedent-setting decision to step down after two terms.
Clinton warned Democrats not to underestimate their adversaries and urged them to engage respectfully with voters, even if they disagree. He cautioned against overconfidence and emphasized the importance of staying focused leading up to Election Day.
Clinton drew a contrast between Trump’s self-centered approach and Harris’ focus on serving the American people. He pointed out the importance of unity within the Democratic Party as they rally around Harris and Walz for the upcoming election. The former president closed his speech with a reminder to stay vigilant and focused amidst political distractions and challenges leading up to the election.
