The race for the open seat in Tennessee House District 60 is heating up as gun-law reform activist Shaundelle Brooks goes head-to-head with former aide to the state’s Republican House speaker, Chad Bobo. The two candidates are starkly divided on nearly every issue.
Brooks, a Democrat, has been an advocate for stricter gun laws since her son was killed in a shooting in 2018. She is pushing for enhanced background checks, safe-storage laws, and restrictions on military-type weapons. In contrast, Republican candidate Bobo supports the state’s permit-less carry law and believes in defending Second Amendment rights.
Bobo’s campaign is focused on creating better jobs in the district, while Brooks is advocating for affordable housing, increased Medicaid, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ rights. The candidates also differ on private-school vouchers, with Brooks opposing them and Bobo unsure of his stance.
Bobo has expressed controversial views on the 2019 presidential election, claiming it was unfair and supporting conspiracy theories. Despite these views, he is positioning himself as a candidate who wants to bring stability to the district by attracting higher-paying jobs and educational opportunities.
The election has generated interest and debate among voters, with both candidates having their strengths and weaknesses. It remains to be seen which candidate will win the support of the voters in Tennessee House District 60.
