Former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney recently campaigned with Vice President Kamala Harris in the birthplace of the Republican Party, Ripon, Wisconsin. As the November 5th election approaches, the Democratic presidential nominee continues to gain support from prominent Republicans. A group of two dozen Wisconsin Republicans endorsed Harris in an open letter, citing Donald Trump’s lack of alignment with Wisconsin values. Wisconsin is a critical swing state that has recently flipped between red and blue in elections.
Cheney, a vocal Trump critic, endorsed Harris last month, expressing her concerns about Trump’s danger to the country. Former Vice President Dick Cheney also stated that he would vote for Harris. Harris has also received endorsements from over 230 Bush-McCain-Romney alums and more than 100 Republican national security officials, leading to a “historic GOP mobilization for Harris.”
Meanwhile, Trump is also actively campaigning in swing states, with a rally scheduled in Saginaw, Michigan. The Democratic National Committee has released billboards in Michigan, focusing on Trump and his running mate, Ohio GOP Sen. J.D. Vance, denying the 2020 election results. Vance’s response during a recent debate on the election outcome was criticized by Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
The upcoming election is shaping up to be a tight contest between Harris and Trump, with both candidates actively campaigning in key states. The support from prominent Republicans for Harris underscores the divisiveness within the GOP ahead of the election.
