A new public-private development is set to transform the Tennessee Vols football game experience at Neyland Stadium in the coming years. The 865 Neyland Project will feature a condotel, entertainment venue, shops, and restaurants on the south side of Neyland near the Tennessee River. The State Building Commission approved the Dixon Greenwood firm to lead the project, with no taxpayer dollars being spent on architectural work.
University of Tennessee President Randy Boyd is behind the project, which aims to provide additional amenities for students and fans year-round. The development will also address the campus’s shortage of restaurants. The condotel will offer a full range of amenities, featuring a rooftop restaurant bar, pool, conference center, and more.
In other news, Tennessee’s Correction commissioner expects a new protocol for executing death row inmates to be ready by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Governor Bill Lee announced that $100 million in TennCare shared savings will be used to provide no-interest loans to flood-damaged counties in East Tennessee. Additionally, at least six counties affected by the recent flood are relocating polling sites and taking steps to ensure voters can cast their ballots in the upcoming election.
Despite former President Donald Trump’s criticism of the Biden administration’s response to the flood, Governor Lee emphasized the federal government’s support and collaboration. With a focus on working together to address the challenges of the disaster, Governor Lee’s approach is seen as a positive step in a challenging situation.
