A shocking incident at the Ascension Living Valley Residence in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has led to the arrest of 51-year-old certified nursing assistant Gary Christopher Crownover. Crownover allegedly threw a 90-year-old Alzheimer’s patient out of a shower and proceeded to beat him, reportedly saying, “I can’t wait for you to die soon.” The victim, who required assistance from two CNAs for showering, was left with injuries including a knee wound and redness on his right eye.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, prompting one of the CNAs present to report the abuse to her supervisor, who then contacted the police. Crownover was subsequently arrested and charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult. The victim’s injuries were documented by the authorities, with blood found on a towel from his knee injury.
In response to the incident, Ascension Living issued a statement emphasizing the importance of the health and safety of their residents and staff. They assured that they are cooperating with law enforcement and have taken action to ensure that Crownover no longer has access to the facility. The organization expressed their commitment to providing a safe environment for their community and affirmed their dedication to meeting healthcare needs.
This disturbing episode serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of individuals in long-term care facilities and the importance of stringent measures to safeguard their well-being. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter to ensure justice is served.
