FEMA Supervisor Accused of Telling Staff to Avoid Trump Homes Claims Policy was Widespread
Marn’i Washington, the FEMA supervisor fired over allegations of directing staff to skip homes with Trump campaign signs, spoke out in an interview with YouTube podcaster Roland Martin. Washington claims she was following a longstanding FEMA policy of avoiding politically hostile homes, which is not isolated to Florida but extends to other states like the Carolinas.
A FEMA official corroborated Washington’s account, stating that the agency has been skipping Trump-supporting or conservative-dominated areas for years. This has led to calls for investigations from Congressional Republican lawmakers into whether FEMA neglected its duties for political reasons.
Despite FEMA denying Washington’s claims, she insists that superiors were aware of the policy. When employees encountered political hostility from residents, particularly related to Trump signs, homes were skipped for safety reasons. Approximately 20 homes in Florida displaying Trump signs were reportedly skipped for federal disaster relief assistance following Hurricane Milton.
Washington’s termination and subsequent firing from a private real estate firm have caused her to relocate due to threats. While FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell denounced the directive as violating agency principles, Washington maintains that she was following established FEMA protocol. The controversy highlights the need for transparency and accountability within FEMA to ensure equitable distribution of disaster relief assistance.
