Chattanooga Softball Secures 2-0 Win Against Tennessee Tech in Final Non-Conference Game
Chattanooga’s softball team capped off its non-conference schedule with a solid 2-0 victory against Tennessee Tech at Frost Stadium on Wednesday evening. The win marked the 22nd of the season for pitcher Peja Goold, who combined with Taylor Long for a shutout performance. Goold’s impressive season ties her for seventh in single-season wins at UTC.
Long delivered a strong outing, pitching five and a third innings, during which she struck out six batters while allowing just four hits and issuing one walk. Goold faced five batters, striking out three, showcasing the duo’s effectiveness on the mound.
Offensively, Camryn Cernuto led the charge in the sixth inning with a single followed by a successful stolen base. Acelynn Sellers then had a hard-hit ball to short, drawing a diving stop, but Cernuto managed to slide safely to third, with Sellers advancing to second. Baileigh Pitts contributed with a critical sacrifice fly on a 2-2 count, allowing Cernuto to cross the plate and pushing Sellers closer to home.
Jayce Purdy delivered the final blow, smacking a double to deep center, which brought Sellers home, solidifying the score at 2-0. Purdy finished the game with two hits, including the double and an RBI, while Sellers also went 2-for-3, contributing to the team’s effort.
Notably, Tennessee Tech’s Golden Eagles had a strong start, loading the bases in the first inning, but were thwarted by Long, who struck out one and forced a groundout, preventing any runs.
Chattanooga will conclude its regular season with a series against Southern Conference rival ETSU, starting with a game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
