Indiana Basketball Welcomes SEC Assistant Coach Rod Clark
Indiana University men’s basketball is set to fortify its coaching staff with the addition of Rod Clark from the University of Tennessee. Jon Rothstein reports that Clark, who has been instrumental in the Volunteers’ recent successes, will take on the role of assistant coach under head coach Darian DeVries. While the university has yet to issue a formal confirmation of the move, Clark’s agent has validated the news.
At just 32 years old, Clark joined Tennessee as an assistant coach in April 2021 under Rick Barnes. During his tenure, the Volunteers amassed an impressive record of 109 wins against 36 losses, showcasing the effectiveness of his coaching. His talent for recruitment is particularly notable; he played a pivotal role in attracting standout players like Dalton Knecht, the 2022-23 SEC Player of the Year and a first-round NBA Draft pick.
Before his time at Tennessee, Clark honed his coaching skills at Austin Peay State University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He began his career in coaching at Sunrise Christian Academy, where he developed his prowess in player development and scouting. Additionally, he led the MoKan Elite program to a Peach Jam championship in 2019.
Clark will join fellow assistants Drew Adams, Kenny Johnson, and Nick Norton on DeVries’ staff, all of whom transitioned from high-profile programs this offseason. Former Bradley assistant Mike Bargen is also anticipated to serve as DeVries’ lead assistant.
As Indiana basketball enthusiasts await confirmation, Clark’s arrival is expected to bring fresh energy and a wealth of experience to the Hoosiers’ program.
