Updates on Weather Delays for Game 1 of Tennessee Baseball vs. Auburn

Tennessee Baseball vs. Auburn: Game Suspended, Doubleheader Set for Saturday

KNOXVILLE, TN — The highly anticipated baseball series between Tennessee and Auburn faced disruption Friday night, leading to the suspension of their opening game due to weather conditions. After only half an inning, the game was postponed to Saturday as a doubleheader, with the first matchup scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. ET. However, the resumption was immediately delayed due to inclement weather.

As of 11:50 a.m., light rain began falling at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, though the game continued. Earlier, play had commenced at 11:35 a.m., following an initial delay from the originally scheduled 11 a.m. start time.

The contest initially began on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. The Tigers of Auburn took an early lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run by Ike Irish. Tennessee’s pitcher, Liam Doyle, managed to navigate through the inning despite an unusual distraction when an Auburn player sent his bat flying into the dugout.

Before the bottom of the first could unfold, officials deemed the game’s mound unplayable, resulting in an abrupt suspension shortly before 10 p.m.

Both teams enter the series as top-12 contenders, with Auburn ranked No. 10 and Tennessee at No. 12 in D1Baseball’s latest poll. The Volunteers, having slipped from the No. 6 slot after a series loss to LSU, look to regain their footing following a tight win against Northern Kentucky (7-5). Auburn, fresh off a midweek victory against Samford (3-0), aims to maintain momentum.

Following Saturday’s doubleheader, game three is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m., with the Tennessee Volunteers continuing their home schedule against Indiana State and in a weekend series against Vanderbilt. As the SEC Tournament approaches, Tennessee’s performance in this crucial series against Auburn looms large.
