Tennessee State Softball Triumphs with Walk-Off Wins, Secures OVC Tournament Spot
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State University (TSU) softball team closed out its regular season with a thrilling doubleheader against Southeast Missouri State (SEMO), claiming both games in dramatic walk-off fashion. The Tigers clinched a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament, earning the No. 6 seed, and will face Tennessee Tech on May 7 at 10 AM.
In the first match, TSU triumphed 9-8 after extra innings. After a strong start, with Jace Jackson contributing a home run and two RBIs, TSU built a comfortable lead. However, SEMO mounted a comeback that tied the game at 8-8. The drama concluded with Onnika Spencer’s walk-off single in the eighth inning, sealing the win for the Tigers. Tianna Salcido picked up the win, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs.
In the second game, Tennessee State won 4-2, with Jackson once again shining, hitting a three-run homer in the seventh inning to secure the victory. Despite trailing 2-0, the Tigers rallied late to clinch the game. Reina Castillo pitched a solid seven innings, only allowing two earned runs to secure her 16th win of the season.
Jackson emerged as a star player throughout the day, amassing two home runs and four RBIs across both games. Her performance, combined with strong pitching and timely hitting from her teammates, led TSU to finish the regular season with a 23-21 record and a 12-12 conference score. The Tigers will look to carry this momentum into the OVC Tournament as they prepare to face Tennessee Tech on Wednesday.
