Tennessee’s Ayden Bussell, once a promising 3-star offensive tackle recruit, is ready to embark on a new chapter in his college football career. On Sunday, Bussell announced his commitment to West Virginia University via social media, marking a transition from Knoxville to Morgantown.
Bussell joins the Mountaineers under the leadership of Rich Rodriguez, who returns to the program after a successful stint at Jacksonville State. Rodriguez previously led West Virginia from 2001 to 2007 and is known for his ability to revitalize teams. Bussell’s decision comes amid a significant overhaul for the Mountaineers, as the program seeks to regain its competitive edge.
The Mt. Juliet High School graduate was highly regarded during his recruitment, ranking as the 61st offensive tackle nationally in the 2023 class according to the 247 Sports Composite. His departure marks the 25th transfer from Tennessee this offseason, adding to a notable list of players leaving the program. Notably, starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava has also left for UCLA, raising questions about the Vols’ future roster.
