Senator Kennedy Calls for Action Against ‘Debanking’ Practices Targeting Conservatives
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a recent op-ed for the New York Post, Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) voiced strong opposition against federal regulators allegedly pressuring banks to close accounts of individuals and businesses that oppose the Biden administration’s agenda. Kennedy, a Senate Banking Committee member, criticized the practice of "debanking," equating it to a form of censorship used against conservative voices.
"Under President Biden, debanking has emerged as a significant tool for the federal government, treating dissenters as terrorists," Kennedy stated. He emphasized that this tactic, previously attributed to crime organizations, is now being employed against law-abiding citizens who simply disagree with political ideologies promoted by the current administration.
He pointed out the critical implications of losing a bank account in today’s cashless society, where individuals face barriers to receiving paychecks, paying bills, and securely managing their finances. "Debanking shuts people out of society," he stressed, urging Congressional action to address this issue.
In response to these growing concerns, Kennedy announced the introduction of the No Red and Blue Banks Act, legislation designed to prohibit federal contracts with banks that discriminate based on political beliefs. "Fair-minded Americans understand that the government should not enable major banks to treat citizens differently based on their political affiliations," he asserted.
The Senate Banking Committee is set to hold a hearing to investigate the prevalence of this troublesome practice, highlighting the need for legislative measures to protect all law-abiding citizens from discrimination in banking due to their religious or political views.
Kennedy concluded his op-ed by reaffirming the fundamental American principle that individuals should be free to believe what they want without fear of repercussions in their financial dealings.
