Tornado Touches Down Near Jackson, Tennessee, Sparks Damage but No Injuries Reported
JACKSON, Tenn. – Severe weather experienced in the region on Tuesday night resulted in a brief tornado touching down just outside of Jackson, Tennessee, causing significant structural damage. The tornado struck the Kirkland warehouse on Smith Lane in Madison County, where approximately 75 employees were present at the time.
According to Chief Eric Turner of the Madison County Fire Department, the timely actions of warehouse management ensured that all employees were safely sheltered during the tornado’s passage, preventing injuries. Footage captured by local viewers showed the warehouse roof being torn away in segments, while debris swirled dangerously above.
"This was the worst damage reported in the county," Turner stated. He noted that while some vehicles sustained damage near the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Department of Transportation, there were no reported injuries in those areas either.
Turner praised the preparedness of the staff, expressing gratitude for the lack of injuries given the chaos unfolding. Observations from video footage suggested the tornado manifested in two separate formations before striking the warehouse and then lifting back into the sky.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis confirmed the tornado’s classification as an EF-0, indicating it caused relatively minor damage compared to stronger tornado classifications. Aside from the substantial damage to the warehouse and surrounding area, the aftermath included downed trees and power lines but minimal widespread destruction.
