NASHVILLE, Tenn. — October 7, 2023 — A series of protests are set to take place across Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky on Saturday, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s birthday and a military parade honoring his administration. The demonstrations, organized by the No Kings movement, aim to challenge perceived government overreach and corruption.
The No Kings initiative, which has positioned itself against alleged abuses of power, calls for accountability, arguing that the current administration has undermined civil rights and basic services. The movement’s slogan, "No thrones. No crowns. No kings," reflects its staunch opposition to authoritarian governance.
The military parade will feature over 6,000 soldiers, 150 army vehicles—including tanks—and 50 aircraft, marking the first military-style parade in Washington since the early 1990s. This event serves as a homage to Trump’s presidency, reminiscent of parades held after significant military events, such as President George H.W. Bush’s Gulf War victory celebration.
Protests are scheduled in various locations: Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Murfreesboro at The Avenue from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Tullahoma from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and multiple other sites in Pulaski, Winchester, Cookeville, Gallatin, and Clarksville throughout the day. In Kentucky, protests are planned in Franklin, Bowling Green, Elkton, and Hopkinsville.
