Protests Against ‘No Kings’ Movement Erupt Across East Tennessee

Protesters in East Tennessee Join Nationwide "No Kings" Demonstrations Against President Trump

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Thousands took to the streets of downtown Knoxville on Saturday as part of the nationwide "No Kings" protests against President Donald Trump. Organized by Indivisible Tennessee, the rally attracted over 7,500 participants waving flags and holding signs to voice their opposition to what they perceive as authoritarianism under the Trump administration.

The flagship event in Philadelphia was complemented by demonstrations across the country, although no protests were planned in Washington, D.C., where a military parade marking Trump’s birthday was scheduled. Knoxville police remained vigilant throughout the event, particularly around the area of Western Avenue and Henley Street near World’s Fair Park.

In addition to Knoxville, protests were reported in Oak Ridge, where local police monitored a gathering of 300 to 400 demonstrators near the high school, and in Maryville. The Madisonville Police Department also observed a demonstration near the Monroe County Courthouse.

The "No Kings" movement is part of the 50501 initiative, which signifies a coordinated effort across all 50 states to advocate for democracy and resist what organizers label authoritarian governance. The protests aimed to create a striking counter-narrative to Trump’s military-themed commemoration of the Army’s 250th anniversary, a celebration projected to cost between $25 million and $45 million and draw an estimated 200,000 attendees.

With these protests, organizers hope to galvanize public discourse around democracy and civil rights, reinforcing their message against what they see as the growing concentration of power in the U.S. government. The "No Kings" protests serve as a rallying point for those disenchanted with the current administration’s policies and priorities.
