During his visit to Michigan, Trump rallied supporters and criticized Harris, casting doubts on the legitimacy of her late entrance into the race. He also tied Harris to President Joe Biden’s handling of the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, stating that it jeopardized U.S. credibility. Despite his loss in the 2016 race, Trump expressed optimism for the upcoming election and vowed to make America greater than ever before.
Prior to his Detroit speech, Trump participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, commemorating the anniversary of a terrorist attack that killed U.S. service members. Biden, who addressed the National Guard officers virtually, praised their service and expressed gratitude. He had previously endorsed Harris to replace him in the presidential race after his campaign faced setbacks. The election in Michigan remains close between Trump and Harris, with the former President making several appearances in the battleground state to rally supporters.
