Bob Kesling, the long-time “Voice of the Vols” for the University of Tennessee, will be inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame tonight. Having served in various on- and off-air capacities for over 25 years, Kesling has been a mainstay on the Vol Radio Network and Vol Television Network. He has been named “Sportscaster of the Year” four times in Tennessee and is the longest-serving member of the Vol Network.
Kesling’s broadcasting career began in 1974 while he was still a student at the University of Tennessee. He worked as a film editor before becoming John Ward’s spotter on Vol Network radio broadcasts. He eventually became the lead announcer on the Vol Radio Network in 1999, calling play-by-play for Tennessee football and basketball games.
In addition to his work with the University of Tennessee, Kesling has also been involved in broadcasting for the Lady Vol basketball team, as well as various sports events on television and radio. He has been an active member of the community, serving on various boards and being inducted into several Hall of Fames.
Kesling joins a prestigious list of previous honorees with ties to Tennessee Athletics and Vol Radio Network, including Lindsey Nelson, John Ward, and George Mooney. His induction into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame is a testament to his dedication and contribution to the world of sports broadcasting.
