McDonald’s Experiencing System Outage, Impacting App and Restaurants Worldwide – NBC Chicago

System failures at McDonald’s caused disruptions at restaurants worldwide on Friday, with some locations forced to close for several hours. The fast-food chain termed the issue a “technology outage” that was being addressed. The outage, which was not related to a cybersecurity breach, prompted complaints on social media from frustrated customers.

McDonald’s Japan reported temporary closures at many nationwide stores due to a system failure. The Downdetector website noted a surge in problems with the McDonald’s app in various cities in the U.S. and elsewhere. However, some locations in Bangkok, Milan, and London were able to resume normal operations after the outage was resolved.

In Bangkok, a McDonald’s restaurant displayed a sign apologizing for the inconvenience and indicating that technicians were updating the system while customers were able to order and pay digitally. McDonald’s locations in Denmark and Milan also reported resolving the technology failure, with technicians successfully restoring their systems.

Various media outlets reported customer complaints from Australia to the U.K. regarding issues with ordering. A McDonald’s restaurant owner in Sweden explained that all McDonald’s locations are part of a global network, which was the source of the widespread issues.

Despite the widespread outage, McDonald’s is working to restore operations at affected restaurants and apologizes for any inconvenience caused to customers. This developing story will be updated as more information becomes available.
