Several schools in Northeast Tennessee have been awarded grants from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education programs. A total of 343 institutions received grants, with funding provided by Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. Schools from seven states applied for the grants in hopes of boosting their STEM initiatives.
Among the schools to receive funding is University School, which will utilize the grant to support its “STEM for Kids” club. Dr. Rayne Price, one of the club’s sponsors, expressed excitement about the opportunity for high school students to create hands-on activities for elementary students that tackle real-world problems.
The grants awarded equaled up to $5,000 per recipient. TVA reported that 21 schools and organizations in Northeast Tennessee were among the recipients. Some of the local schools and institutions include Boones Creek Elementary, Cherokee High School, Elizabethton High School, Greene Technology Center, and Tennessee High School.
Since 2018, TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. have awarded nearly $6 million in STEM grants, demonstrating a commitment to advancing STEM education in the region.
This initiative highlights a significant investment in STEM education by the TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc., which will have a positive impact on students across Northeast Tennessee by fostering skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
