Legendary pitmaster Pat Martin is set to showcase the nation’s varied and time-honored cooking traditions in the new Outdoor Channel series, “Life of Fire.” Premiering on Monday, May 6, at 8 p.m. CT / 9 p.m. ET, the series will feature 10 episodes where Martin delves into the arduous, old methods of barbecue and live fire cooking, highlighting unique styles and stories from different regions across the country.
Created by Martin and produced by Intuitive Content, the show aims to bring attention to the importance of preserving these dying customs and traditions. Martin will explore techniques and practices from various states such as Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, and even delve into international traditions from places like Greece and Laos. As one of the few remaining pitmasters practicing West Tennessee-style whole hog barbecue, Martin is deeply passionate about preserving these time-honored methods and sharing the cultural foodways of cooking over fire.
With a successful restaurant chain, Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, and other ventures under his belt, Martin brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the show. His dedication to scratch-made, traditional Southern food is evident in his restaurants, and his debut book, “Life of Fire: Mastering the Arts of Pit-Cooked Barbecue, The Grill, and The Smokehouse,” serves as the inspiration for the series.
Audiences can expect to learn about forgotten cuts of meat, unique cooking methods, and the history behind some of America’s most beloved dishes. With a mix of education and entertainment, “Life of Fire” promises to take viewers on a journey through the rich culinary heritage of barbecue and live fire cooking.
