A collection of rare guitars, including instruments once played by music legends such as John Lennon, Prince, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, and others, are set to be auctioned off by Julien’s on May 29th and May 30th in New York. These guitars have unique stories and ties to rock music history, with highlights including John Lennon’s lost 1965 “Help!” acoustic guitar and Prince’s missing Cloud 3 guitar. The guitars are currently on display at Nashville’s Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum until May 18th for public viewing.
The story behind John Lennon’s guitar is particularly intriguing, as it was hidden in an attic for 50 years before being discovered by a family in England. The guitar was used by Lennon to play the song “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” from “Help!” and was also used by George Harrison and Ringo Starr on the album “Rubber Soul.” Another prized guitar in the collection is Prince’s Cloud 3 guitar, which was thought to be lost but was identified through a CT scan of the instrument.
Other guitars in the auction include ones owned by Randy Bachman, Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Chet Atkins, and Mark Knopfler. The guitars will be auctioned off alongside other music memorabilia, with bidding already underway online. Julien’s Music Icons auction is expected to draw significant interest, with the potential for record-breaking sales prices. The guitars offer fans and collectors a unique opportunity to own a piece of music history associated with some of the most iconic artists in the industry.
