In a hard-fought battle, the No. 16-seeded Tennessee women’s tennis team fell to No. 13-seeded Texas A&M in the NCAA Team Championship Semifinals on Saturday night at Greenwood Tennis Center. Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Vols could not overcome the strong Aggies, ultimately losing 4-1.
The match started with doubles, where Tennessee fell behind 1-0 after losing two out of three matches. The duo of Adeshina and Wolfberg were defeated by Branstine and Perez, while Cabezas and Tomase were unable to beat Stoiana and Kupres. Anzalotta and Aulia were tied in their match when play was stopped.
In singles, the Lady Vols put up a fight, with Adeshina securing a win over Mireles to get Tennessee on the board. However, losses by Cabezas to Stoiana and Tomase to Branstine sealed the fate of the match. Wolfberg also fell to Khirin in a hard-fought three-set match.
Despite Tennessee’s best efforts, they could not complete a comeback against the strong Texas A&M team. The loss marked the end of an impressive season for the Lady Vols, who made their second Final Four appearance in program history. Although disappointed with the result, the team can hold their heads high after a strong showing in the NCAA Team Championship.
