Construction of the $114 million multi-use stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee has reached the halfway point, with concerns about parking availability as the targeted opening date approaches in spring 2025. The stadium will boast 7,500 seats and create 400 jobs. Despite the thousands expected to flock to the area, worries linger about parking shortages.
City officials state that there are nearly 7,700 public parking spaces within a 10-minute walk of the stadium, and 15,000 more in garages and surface lots within a 20-minute walk. However, some businesses fear a parking deficit as most garages fill up quickly, leaving nearby parking areas empty.
Business owners in the area anticipate increased revenue with the stadium’s development, expecting a variety of events such as soccer games, concerts, and farmers markets. To combat potential parking issues, the city has hired a third-party firm to analyze downtown parking and mobility.
While city officials work on a creative solution to address the parking challenges, Boyd Sports CEO Doug Kirchhofer reassures the public that the developers are collaborating with the City of Knoxville to produce a comprehensive parking plan by the fall of 2025. This plan will aim to accommodate the various activities that will take place at the stadium, ensuring a smooth experience for visitors and business owners.
