Two Georgia firefighters, Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander, who went missing at the end of June, have been found dead in Cocke County, Tennessee. Their bodies were discovered inside Anderson’s vehicle. The Hinesville Police Department made the announcement, directing further inquiries to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
The TBI is leading the investigation into the deaths of Anderson and Kuhbander, with agents working alongside the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office. Autopsies are being conducted to determine the cause and manner of death, as well as to positively identify the bodies.
Liberty County Fire Chief Brian Darby expressed his deep sadness over the loss of the two firefighters, who were dedicated to serving their community. The Liberty County Fire Department declined to comment further on the matter.
Last week, Hinesville police had posted information about the missing firefighters on Facebook, sharing a photo of Anderson’s vehicle, a black 2017 Ford Focus. Anderson was last seen at a fire station in Liberty County, and authorities believed she may have been accompanied by Kuhbander, who was also reported missing.
Kuhbander’s vehicle was found in Savannah, Georgia, while Anderson’s vehicle was initially seen in Richmond Hill, Georgia, before being located in Tennessee. Cocke County is approximately 400 miles north of where the firefighters were based in Midway, Georgia. Antonio Planas from NBC News Digital contributed to this report.
