A bipartisan task force has been announced by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The 13 lawmakers chosen for the panel will focus on the Secret Service’s protection plans for Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and how the gunman was able to open fire. The panel, chaired by Rep. Mike Kelly, includes members from both parties, such as Rep. Mark Green and Rep. Jason Crow.
The House voted unanimously to establish the task force, with a final report expected by December 13. The investigation is seen as crucial in uncovering the facts surrounding the shooting that wounded Trump and took the life of one individual. The task force aims to ensure accountability and prevent future security failures.
In addition to the congressional investigation, the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Judiciary Committee will hold a joint hearing on the shooting. The FBI has also launched its own investigation into the incident.
The task force members are committed to a thorough investigation and providing the American people with the answers they deserve. The aim is to uncover the truth behind the assassination attempt and recommend necessary security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
