Tennessee Gas Prices Remain Stable Amid Fluctuations and Hurricane Impact
Nashville, TN – Gas prices across Tennessee saw fluctuations last week, peaking at $2.80 before dropping to $2.76 over the weekend, maintaining the same price as the previous week. Currently, the average gas price in Tennessee is $2.76 – significantly lower than both last month by 18 cents and last year by 56 cents. This positions Tennessee as the fourth least expensive state for gasoline in the nation, according to Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. While fluctuations are expected to continue, the overall trend suggests stability.
The recent impact of Hurricane Helene on several eastern counties has raised concerns about temporary gasoline outages in the region. Extensive flooding, power outages, and closed roads hamper accessibility to fuel and complicate deliveries. However, Cooper reassures residents that these outages are temporary: "Just take what you need," she advised, emphasizing that gas stations operate on limited underground storage.
Nationally, the average gas price increased slightly to $3.21, reflecting a one-cent rise from the previous week. Despite a rise in demand to 9.20 million barrels per day, domestic gasoline stocks have decreased to 220.1 million barrels. These market dynamics, coupled with low oil prices, are likely to continue favoring declining pump prices.
Regionally, the most expensive metro markets for gas are Nashville ($2.80), Jackson ($2.79), and Memphis ($2.78), while Morristown ($2.69), Kingsport ($2.70), and Clarksville ($2.70) feature the least expensive prices.
As Tennessee navigates these challenges, authorities are committed to ensuring the stability of gasoline supplies as soon as conditions allow.
