Greiner’s Goal Leads Tennessee to a 1-0 Victory Against Florida

Lady Vols Soccer Secures 1-0 Victory Over Gators, Earning SEC Tournament Spot

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Tennessee Lady Vols soccer team continued its dominance over the Florida Gators, claiming a 1-0 victory on Wednesday, marking their eighth consecutive win against the rival. Sophomore Sarah Greiner scored the lone goal of the match, assisted by Dakota Brown and Nyla Blue, solidifying Tennessee’s position with a record of 8-5-4 (3-4-3 in SEC play).

Head coach Joe Kirt expressed his pride in the team’s performance, emphasizing their preparedness and focus as they secured the crucial win. "Incredibly proud of our group and team today. They knew what was at stake," he remarked. Greiner’s goal came just before halftime, executed brilliantly from a corner kick sequence that involved contributions from Brown and Blue.

Despite rigorous competition, including a demanding schedule of three games in seven days, Tennessee managed to display strong defensive capabilities, allowing only one shot on target by Florida throughout the match. Freshman goalie Cayden Norris made her first collegiate start and earned a clean sheet, reflecting her solid performance in goal.

The Lady Vols outshot Florida with 10 attempts, five of which were on target, while Florida struggled to convert their chances, ending the match with seven shots overall.

With this victory, Tennessee claims the ninth seed in the forthcoming SEC Tournament, where they will face eighth-seeded Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday in Pensacola, Florida. The team aims to build on this momentum as they prepare for the tournament, looking to leverage their recent success into future victories.
